Programmes for Persons with Disabilities

A physical disability need not stand in the way of your dream to fly. The Ulster Gliding Club strives to make the flying experience and the club facilities alike, accessible to all. We offer reduced rates for trial lessons, as well as membership fees, to persons with disabilities and look forward to welcoming you into our community.

Our Accessible Glider

The club has a specially adapted glider that provides ease of access for people with disabilities. The glider is fitted with hand controls to replace the normal foot operated rudder pedals so that the same skill level and progress can be achieved by all trainee pilots.

Accessible Premises

The club's visitor centre and the hangar have level access for wheelchair users and there is a wheelchair accessible w.c. facility in the new visitors centre. The airfield itself is of short level grass but it is not normally required to have wheelchairs move on the grass.

Assistance with Boarding

An electrically operated hoist is available to assist with entry and exit for wheelchair users and those with mobility problems.

The design of the two-seat gliders allows a maximum weight of 103 kg or 224 lbs or 16 Stone per occupant.

Group Flying

Group flying for those with disabilities can be arranged, with groups up to a maximum of 12 persons. Please get in touch to make arrangements!
